Hello! Thank you very much for giving us your time. First of all, I would like you to tell us how were your beginnings in the music industry? Where did the interest in this sector come from?
I love music since I remember. When I was young, my mother after dinner played on piano. That was so magical and then I said myself: This is so cool to play a piano! Let’s find a teacher!
Besides I had a opportunity to join the school choir and when I was older I took a voice lessons. Meanwhile I’m getting interested in vocal technique, so I participated in conferences, vocal workshops studying something new about sining. Then I was looking for members to create rock band. I was in a few bands, but only with As Night Falls I feel comfortable and good.
We can see more and more the presence of women in line-ups of festivals and other events, but even so, the male presence continues to predominate in this area. What do you think this is due to?
This is very important issue and so good that more and more people pay attention to it. You are a next person who are asking about this problem.
I think female artist should show up, not worry about what other people think and work. Luckily I’ve met group of great guys (from As Night Falls , my second band: Leśne Licho and Spatial– where I’m features vocal). I have good working relationship with guys from those bands.
Males predominate in every area 😀 (ok, not yet in a beauty) and I think this is due to all the time men had a constent and unfortunately women weren’t able or couraugeous to do something. Luckily is better, but world must still learning and changing.
Some time a go I and my bassplayer was mentioned Arch Enemy (but Angela Gossow). Arch Enemy was a first female fronted band with growl vocal in metal industry (If I’m wrong- correct me). In those times Angela with her voice was so unique and people were falling in love with her vocal. She was an inspiration to many girls and due to a lot of girls were going to start learning growl, scream . As you see every action requiers a courage, self-confidence and good team to work. This is way to success.

What are the main differences that you found when entering the musical world as a woman? Do you see a growth in the presence of female members in this industry in recent years?
Where do you feel things have changed?
When I entering the musical world I met quite a lot women in metal, rock music. I still see a growth in the presence of female members thanks to the fact that they cooperate with different bands. I think musicians see that we should support each other and don’t compete, because we have one goal. Thank’s why we As Night Falls , Kestrella and Arshenic arranged in Poland Dark Female Festival, we (ANF) created some playlist on Spotify with female fronted band .
Which women inspire you? Is there any you would be especially excited to work with? In this sector which are the female artists that serve as a reference for new generations in your opinion?
Recently I’m a big fan of Julia Sanina from The Hardkiss (from Ukraine). Her vocal live made really impressed me. The Hardkiss from music, performance to appearance (for me it’s very important) are amazing. They know that women should looks nice and call attention. They have a good team who take care about (especially) Julia (stylist, hairdresser and makeup artist) . I love watch their works and they inspire me. The Hardkiss are the next example of the band with female vocalist who at the beginning there was criticized for look (they compared to Lady Gaga and they were accused of lack of own style) , but through the determination they have achieved success.
I think artist from every kind of music serve as a reference for new generations , so I recommend explore every kind of music. It’s evolving.
Being a woman, appearance is always judged more, something that in men seems not to be so relevant. Has your physical appearance had an influence in any way when working as a musician?
It’s hard to say it was thanks to appearance, or because I’m a women, but it helps in working.
As I said earlier: vocalist appearance is very important. Everyone knows that beauty vocalist is eye-catcher, but very important thing is to be original. Let’s check polish vocalist like Brodka, Daria Zawiałow . They are very lovely girls, but they are focus on something different like physical appearance.
Has there been any situation that you have experienced in this industry for being a woman that left a mark on you?
There were situation when a drunk guy from the audience screamed: «show your boobs» or after show , or when I stayed alone with the merch, guys under the pretext to take a photo were pushy.. That’s why I try to stand with anybody: guys from band or friends and be careful.
Do you think sisterhood prevails over envy in the music world or is It the other way around?
Jealous are not only girls… 🙂 Like anything else in the life, more often you can meet envy, then kindness . Especially in Poland. Unfortunately Polish people are very sad, cranky and sometimes are satisfied.
No matter what kind of music: in music industry when you find someone who would like to cooperate and support for no reason – this is friendship and keep him. I had a lucky to meet people like that, but it’s not a many. In music industry is different problem. Very often you can meet with using bands for own profit (especially labels, publishing house) .

It has been a long time since the Covid-19 pandemic began and it has affected culture so much, especially live music. Little by little steps are being taken towards a return to normality, but there is still risk. How have you taken that situation? Please tell us about the way it affected your activity and how have you managed to move forward with your projects.
During pandemic we created LP album Awareness, two singles: Awareness and Never Look Back, so we tried to stay creative. Unfortunately we played only 2 shows, but we’are optimistic, we’re working and we’re planning new events for the next Year.
What do you think about this section about women in the industry? Do you think it helps to highlight the presence of women and her circumstances in rock and metal; Or, on the contrary, do you think that it can transmit a negative message?
We should talking about this, show people how it looks to be aware about this . What will people do with this – I don’t know, but I hope some mentality will change.

¡Hola! Muchas gracias por dedicarnos tu tiempo. Antes de nada, me gustaría que nos contaras ¿Cómo han sido tus inicios en la industria musical? ¿De dónde nació el interés por este sector?
Me gusta la música desde que recuerdo. Cuando era joven, mi madre, después de cenar, tocaba el piano. Era tan mágico que me dije: ¡Qué guay es tocar un piano! ¡Vamos a buscar un profesor!
Además, tuve la oportunidad de unirme al coro de la escuela y, de mayor, tomé clases de canto. Mientras tanto me interesaba por la técnica vocal, así que participé en conferencias, talleres de canto estudiando algo nuevo sobre el canto. Luego busqué miembros para crear una banda de rock. Estuve en varias bandas, pero sólo con As Night Falls me siento cómoda y bien.
Cada vez podemos ver más la presencia de mujeres en carteles de festivales y otros eventos, pero aun así sigue predominando la presencia masculina en este ámbito ¿A qué crees que se debe?
Este es un tema muy importante y es bueno que cada vez más gente le preste atención. Tu eres la segunda persona que me pregunta por este problema.
Creo que las mujeres artistas deberían manifestarse, no preocuparse por lo que piensen los demás y trabajar. Por suerte, he conocido a un grupo de chicos estupendos (de As Night Falls , mi segunda banda: Leśne Licho y Spatial– donde soy la voz principal). Tengo una buena relación de trabajo con los chicos de esas bandas.
Los hombres predominan en todas las áreas 😀 (ok, todavía no en el mundo de la estética) y creo que esto se debe a que todo el tiempo los hombres tenían eran una costante y desafortunadamente las mujeres no eran capaces o valientes para hacer algo. Por suerte ha mejorado, pero el mundo debe seguir aprendiendo y cambiando.
Hace un tiempo, mi bajista y yo mencionamos a Arch Enemy (en concreto a Angela Gossow). Arch Enemy fue la primera banda liderada por una mujer con guturales en la industria del metal (si me equivoco, corregidme). En aquellos tiempos Angela con su voz era única y la gente se enamoraba de su voz. Ella fue una inspiración para muchas y debido a un montón de chicas iban a empezar a aprender a hacer gutural, gritar . Como veis cada acción requiere un valor, confianza en uno mismo y un buen equipo para trabajar. Este es el camino hacia el éxito.

¿Cuáles son las principales diferencias que encontraste a la hora de introducirte en el mundo musical siendo mujer? ¿Ves un crecimiento de presencia de miembros femeninos en esta industria en los últimos años? ¿En que ves qué haya cambiado?
Cuando entré en el mundo de la música conocí a bastantes mujeres en la música metal y rock. Sigo viendo un crecimiento en la presencia de miembros femeninos gracias a que cooperan con diferentes bandas. Creo que los músicos ven que debemos apoyarnos unos a otros y no competir, porque tenemos un solo objetivo. Gracias a ello, nosotros As Night Falls, Kestrella y Arshenic organizamos en Polonia el Dark Female Festival, nosotros (ANF) creamos algunas listas de reproducción en Spotify con bandas lideradas por mujeres.
¿Por qué mujeres te sientes inspirada? ¿Hay alguna con la que te haría especial ilusión trabajar? ¿Cuáles son las artistas que ves dentro del sector que sirven como referencia para nuevas generaciones?
Recientemente soy un gran fan de Julia Sanina de The Hardkiss (de Ucrania). Su voz en directo me ha impresionado mucho. The Hardkiss desde la música, la actuación y la apariencia (para mí es muy importante) son increíbles. Saben que las mujeres deben lucir bien y llamar la atención. Tienen un buen equipo que cuida (especialmente) de Julia (estilista, peluquera y maquilladora). Me encanta ver sus trabajos y me inspiran. The Hardkiss son el siguiente ejemplo de banda con vocalista femenina que al principio fue criticada por su aspecto (se les comparaba con Lady Gaga y se les acusaba de falta de estilo propio), pero a través de la determinación han alcanzado el éxito.
Creo que los artistas de todo tipo de música sirven de referencia para las nuevas generaciones, así que recomiendo explorar todo tipo de música. Está evolucionando.
Siendo mujer siempre se juzga más la apariencia, algo que en los hombres parece no ser tan relevante ¿Ha influido tu aspecto físico en algún sentido a la hora de trabajar en este sector?
Como he dicho antes: la apariencia del vocalista es muy importante. Todo el mundo sabe que la belleza del vocalista es un punto de atracción, pero lo más importante es ser original. Veamos a vocalistas polacas como Brodka, Daria Zawiałow. Son chicas muy encantadoras, pero se centran en algo diferente como la apariencia física.
¿Hay alguna situación que hayas vivido en esta industria por ser mujer que te haya marcado?
Hubo situaciones en las que un tipo borracho del público gritó «enseña las tetas» o después del espectáculo, cuando me quedé sola con el merchan, los chicos con el pretexto de hacer una foto fueron prepotentes.. Por eso trato de estar con cualquiera: chicos de la banda o amigos y tener cuidado.
¿Piensas que en este sector prevalece la sororidad ante la envidia o al contrario?
Los celos no son solo de las chicas… 🙂 Como todo en la vida, más a menudo se puede encontrar la envidia, entonces hay que ser bondadoso. Especialmente en Polonia. Desgraciadamente los polacos son muy tristes, malhumorados y a veces no están satisfechos.
No importa qué género musical: en la industria de la música cuando encuentras a alguien que quiere cooperar y apoyar sin razón esto es la amistad y hay que mantenerlo. Tuve la suerte de conocer a gente así, pero no es lo habitual.
En la industria de la música es diferente. Muy a menudo se puede usar las bandas para su propio beneficio (especialmente los sellos discográficos) .
No importa qué género musical: en la industria de la música cuando encuentras a alguien que quiere cooperar y apoyar sin razón esto es la amistad y hay que mantenerlo.
Ha pasado ya bastante tiempo desde que comenzó la pandemia del Covid-19 y que tanto ha afectado a la cultura, especialmente a la música en directo. Poco a poco se van dando pasos hacia una vuelta a la normalidad, pero aún sigue habiendo riesgo. ¿Cómo lo has llevado todo? ¿De qué manera ha afectado a tu actividad y cómo has conseguido seguir adelante con tus proyectos?
Durante la pandemia creamos el álbum LP Awareness, dos singles: Awareness y Never Look Back, así que intentamos seguir siendo creativos. Desgraciadamente sólo hemos hecho dos conciertos, pero somos optimistas, estamos trabajando y planeando nuevos eventos para el próximo año.
¿Qué opinas sobre esta sección de mujeres en la industria? ¿Piensas que ayuda a destacar la presencia de la mujer y sus circunstancias en el rock y el metal; ¿o, por el contrario, crees que puede transmitir algún mensaje negativo?
Deberíamos hablar de esto, mostrar a la gente cómo ser consciente de esto. No sé qué hará la gente, pero espero que cambie la mentalidad.
