Bueno, hemos elegido nuestro propio camino, supongo.

¿Cómo está funcionando vuestro último disco Among the Ghosts?

Michael Shannon aparece en la canción Back to the night haciendo un «spoken word» y en el video clip de Long Way from Home.

Tell us looking back how the band’s career has been all these years

Ha. Well we’ve taken our own road I guess. We like to work, but not too hard. So we’ve done things our own way. We stayed on the road throughout our career and that’s still how we pay the bills. I am proud to say that I still like the songs we wrote 20 years ago and love singing them alongside songs we wrote last year. I like some records better than others but overall I feel like I can stand behind the songwriting on every one of them. Although I must admit our latest album Among the Ghosts is currently my all time favorite.

How is your last record Among the Ghosts working?

I guess it’s working about as well as our other records. Old fans seem to like it a lot and new fans seem to like it too. For both groups of fans to like the same thing… that’s rare. But good. I think we’ve almost recouped our costs. That’s good. Like I said in the last answer it’s my favorite Lucero record of all time. So there’s that. Will it make us more famous? Probably not. But god damn I love singing those songs every night.

In your hometown, Memphis ,has been declared Lucero day. It should make you feel very proud, doesn´t it?

It does make us very proud! We love where we are from. Having a holiday declared in your name would be an honor in any town. But in a town like Memphis, for a Rock&Roll band, it means the world! Memphis of course has so much history and was home to so many great musicians. Just being a footnote in the musical history of this town is an amazing accomplishment for Lucero.

How do you see yourself in the current music scene where everything have changed with Internet and Social Media?

Eh. We don’t think about it too much. Which might be why not a lot of people know about us. I think it is great how the internet has made music much more accessible. Technology has made recording your ideas easier and distributing those ideas easier and it’s made it easier to find musicians and songs that would’ve been almost impossible to find in the old days. It’s very impressive. It’s definitely helped spread our music and I’m thankful for that. But when it comes down to it we enjoy focusing on writing and recording our songs and playing them live. I have no idea how to build a website and I really don’t want to learn. And I never have time to leave comments on social media. Like I said, if we had a bigger social media presence we might be a more successful band, but I just don’t have it in me to spend that much time on a computer.

Your music appears on the soundtrack of several films directed by Jeff Nichols (Ben´s Brother),Do you think it´s a way for your music  to reach more people?

Oh for sure! Jeff’s movies have reached a much wider audience than our albums. So it helps us out a lot. But what is nice is knowing that Jeff wouldn’t use our music if he didn’t think it truly fit the film and helped tell the story. I know my brother pretty well and I know he is a perfectionist and very detail oriented. I know he would never endanger the integrity of his film just to help his brother’s band out. Knowing that he really likes the music and sees it as part of his stories is a huge compliment.

Michael Shannon appears in the song «Back to the night «doing a spoken word and in the video clip of «Long Way from Home».I consider him a superlative actor and here in Spain he became known especially with the series «Boardwalk Empire». Is he a friend or fan of the band?

He is a good friend of my brother Jeff. They met when Michael acted in Jeff’s first movie Shotgun Stories way back in 2005 or so. I’ve met him a number of times and he is always kind and smart and funny. He did us a big favor by doing the spoken word piece on «Back to the Night» and an even bigger favor by acting in the video for «Long Way Back Home.» Having Michael involved with the album was huge. I think he is a brilliant actor. I also think the other actors in the video, Scoot McNairy amd Garrett Hedlund, are amazing as well. My brother Jeff knows a lot of very talented people and we were very lucky we got to work with them.

You make tours mainly for Usa and you come little to Europe, what is the reason?

Hopefully we can come to Europe more often! Especially Spain. It all comes down to being able to pay the bills. Hopefully this festival will help us do that.

You are going to play in the next edition of the Azkena Rock Festival with bands like Blackberry Smoke to which a certain friendship binds you. What can the festival audience expect from your show?

We have played some of the same festivals as Blackberry Smoke in the past and they are even playing our hometown Memphis Block Party with us in April. It will be nice to see them in Spain. As far as the Lucero show goes I have a feeling we will play a lot of stuff off Among the Ghosts and throw a few old favorites in as well. It depends on how much time we have. There never seems to be enough time.

In Spain, a passion for American roots music is happening .In fact there are some bands like Morgan that  play in Azkena

Rock Festival too and they are very successful with compositions very close to that style. We look forward to your show in the Festival.

I can honestly say for the whole band: WE CAN’T WAIT TO GET BACK TO SPAIN! See you there!!!!!
